Les discopathies actives constituent une entité radioclinique aujourd'hui bien démembrée par l'IRM. Il existe une corrélation entre la symptomatologie caractéristique de ces discopathies, surtout lors de la phase inflammatoire (Modic I), et l'imagerie. Les classifications de Pfirmann et de Modic rendent compte des différents stades de l'involution discale. Ainsi caractérisées, ces discopathies actives sont plus efficacement prises en charge.
