MOTIVATION, ESSENTIAL IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF REGULAR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
IN PHYSIOTHERAPY
Motivation is a complex mechanism. It determines the success of the establishment of a regular physical activity program in physiotherapy. Indeed, there are three degrees of motivation (lack of motivation, extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation) which depend on three fundamental needs of human beings which are autonomy, competence and social belonging. These three fundamental needs are themselves dependent on many factors, the most important is the attitude of the therapist. It is therefore essential to establish a patient-therapist relationship in a climate which supports independance.
