Manual dexterity is often affected in neurological conditions, such as stroke. There is a lack of methods that quantify dexterity and its key components (independence of the fingers, force control, timing). We have developed the Finger force manipulandum (FFM) which allows quantification of these key components in various tasks with visual feedback. Our present research aims to validate the use of this tool for the measurement of dexterity in persons with stroke.
