THE ROLE OF STRETCHING IN THE SECONDARY PREVENTION OF CHRONIC FOREARM COMPRESSION SYNDROME IN AMATEUR WINDSURFERS
The practice of this sport for years causes chronic forearm syndrome, wich is characterized by an hypertrophy of fingers flexor muscles with hernias. It is linked to a pressure increase in the muscular compartment (a limited space inextensible) wich disturbs the function and the viability of its tissues. It is characterized by pain that increases the extented practice of windsurfing (or moto-cross, or climbing...), and the possibility of occurence of paresthesia, wich disappear upon discontinuation of athletic endeavor.
This work illustrates prevention of the chronic compartment syndrom in amateur windsurfers with muscular stretching.
According to the results of this experiment, it appears that muscle stretching could play an important role in secondary prevention of chronic compartment syndrome among these sports by decreasing the intensity of pain during sport, decreased sleep time during sport and post-exercise pain.
